Grover A. "Dick" Hill was born in Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio, U.S.A., on 27 February 1888, to James B. Hill and Ella McDonald.

Grover Hill spent much of his younger years in Raceland, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, U.S.A., where his father relocated following a ditching operation.

Grover Hill then lived in North Baltimore, Wood County, Ohio, where he met and married Helen Genette Wommer. Around 1924, the couple moved to Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, U.S.A. They had six children: Helene R. Hill, Esther Hill (who took the veil as Sister Jeanne Marie), James Elmer Hill, George Marion Hill, Richard Carrol Hill (my maternal grandfather), and Robert L. Hill.

Following the death of Helen Hill (née Wommer), Grover remarried to Harriet Ava Parker (1887-1969), who is buried at Youngs Cemetery in Liberty Center, Henry County, Ohio (the city where she was born). I believe that Parker is the surname of her previous husband; I'm not sure of her maiden name. Her obituary lists her as survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harriet A. Phillips, and a stepson (unrelated to Grover), Reginald A. Park, both of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

Grover A. "Dick" Hill lived with his son (Richard Carrol Hill) and his wife (Ella Clementine Hill née Besançon) briefly before he passed away on November 29, 1970. He is buried at Maplewood Cemetery in North Baltimore, Wood County, Ohio. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias.

FYI: Grover Hill, my great grandfather, used his connections at Ohio Bell to help get my dad (M.P. Fox) a job as a telephone operator.
