Armand Peugeot (1849-1915)

Armand Peugeot was born in the canton of Hérimoncourt, in Montbéliard, Franche-Comté, France, on 26 March 1849. He was the son of Émile Peugeot (1815-1874) and Wilhelmine Mathilde Ehrmann (1818-1893).

The Peugeot family had its hand in manufacturing long before Armand Peugeot was born. Armand studied at the École Centrale in Paris, where he learned engineering. This education, combined with subsequent travel, led to his interest in bicycle manufacturing. In 1896, Armand founded the Société des Automobiles Peugeot.

Princeton University hosts a family industrial history of the Peugeots here.

The Virtual Museum of Protestantism has an article on the Peugeots here.
