Dr. Richard Besançon was born in Stryker, Williams County, Ohio, in 1926. Richard worked as a theology professor at Judson University. He passed away in Elgin, Illinois, on March 10, 2014.

"Dr. Besançon was born on May 14, 1926 in Stryker, Ohio, the son of Paul & Lena (Grisier) Besançon. He was a graduate of Wheaton College, Baylor University and the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was an ordained Southern Baptist Minister, and he pastored churches in Waco, Texas, Madison, Wisc., and Cicero, Ill. He also served in the Army’s 42nd Rainbow Division in World War II. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Elgin.

"He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vannye (Whitley) Besançon.  Children, Jonathan, Kathryn and Sarah (Keith) Thompson; grandson Ryan Thompson; a brother Bill of Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Harry, Clementine (Hill), Paul and twin brother Robert."
