Grover Hill spent much of his younger years in Raceland, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, U.S.A., where his father relocated following a ditching operation.

Grover Hill then lived in North Baltimore, Wood County, Ohio, where he met and married Hellen Genette Wommer. Around 1924, the couple moved to Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, U.S.A.

They had six children:

  • George Marion Hill
  • Richard Carrol Hill
  • Robert L. Hill
Following the death of Hellen Hill (née Wommer), Grover remarried to Harriet Avo Parker née Foncannon (1887-1969), who is buried at Youngs Cemetery in Liberty Center, Henry County, Ohio (the city where she was born). Her obituary lists her as survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harriet A. Phillips, and a stepson (unrelated to Grover), Reginald A. Park, both of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

Grover A. "Dick" Hill lived with his son (Richard Carrol Hill) and his wife (Ella Cléméntine Hill née Besancon) briefly before he passed away on November 29, 1970. He is buried at Maplewood Cemetery in North Baltimore, Wood County, Ohio. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias.
